Creating
in wonder

Dick Oostra (Enschede, 1946) has built up an impressive body of realist work over the years. Since January 2018 he has worked from his studio in the characterful village of Oldehove, surrounded by the wide skies and the openness of the northern landscape.

In all the beauty around him he recognises the hand of the Creator. He considers it a privilege to live and work in the midst of that creation — and to create himself, on canvas, panel or paper.

For his landscapes he draws inspiration from the Wadden Sea region, and from the countryside of France, Denmark, Sweden and Ireland.

IV   —   The Studio

On the
Kerkpad

A detached studio in the old Groningen village of Oldehove. Silence, north light, high ceilings. A place where work is not made but found — in the hours when the light moves across the polder.

Visit
Welcome by appointment — Kerkpad 9, 9883 PK Oldehove
— Studio photo A quiet studio photo in north light.
No people, with space around it.

There is emptiness but no barrenness in Dick’s work.
There is a palpable silence.
