Creating in wonder
Dick Oostra (Enschede, 1946) has been drawing and painting for over half a century — from etchings and watercolours to acrylic and oil.
A life
in pictures
Dick Oostra was born on 18 April 1946 in Enschede. Between 1973 and 1990 he made mainly drawings, etchings and watercolours; around 1990 watercolour gave way to painting in acrylic and oil.
Since January 2018 he has lived and worked in Oldehove in Groningen, surrounded by the wide skies and the openness of the northern landscape. In all the beauty around him he recognises the hand of the Creator.
His subjects are landscapes and animals. The landscapes are inspired above all by the Wadden Sea region, but also by the countryside of France, Denmark, Sweden and Ireland. Most drawings begin as a study for a painting — but are worked out so far that they stand as works of art in their own right.
